Since 2017, Cabaret Mademoiselle has established itself as a reference point for Brussels nightlife. Against the backdrop of a cabaret from the last century, inspired by Berlin but without ever wanting to play the historical reconstruction card, it aims to showcase a maximum of genres, things and people.
Living art, humour and culture are celebrated with love and creativity! Several evenings a week, we meet drag artists, burlesque strippers, circus artists, comedians and musicians in a joyful cacophony of popular entertainment.
Open to all, it naturally advocates open-mindedness and tolerance, far from categories and labels. The watchwords are: fun, enjoyment and dreams. We also cultivate a taste for intimacy, closeness to the audience and accessibility.
The Artist Profiles
Kopano Maroga (they/them) is a performance artist, writer, cultural worker and co-founding director of the arts organization ANY BODY ZINE. They are currently living in Brussels, Belgium and working as a curator and guest-dramaturge at Kunstencentrum Vooruit in Ghent, Belgium. Their debut anthology of poetry, Jesus Thesis and Other Critical Fabulations, was released through uHlanga press in December of 2020. They don't believe love will save us but very much believe in the power of love as a weapon of mass construction.
The universe of Cabaret Mademoiselle is a declaration of love to the living arts, to freakshows, to vintage, to the Roaring Twenties or to disco, a cabaret revisited in a 2.0 way! There are men, women, and all the in-betweens - furry, naked, or dressed in sequins, without gender but with style, in turn carnal, naughty, or naughty, mixing poetry, burlesque, circus, drag and comedy!
For the Belgian Pride, no less than ten artists from the troupe come to bring you glitter, lipsyncs and dizzy heels on a silver platter! From the 1920s to the distant future, this year, you will be spared nothing! Loud, proud, and crazier than ever!
Including: Aleksei Von Wosylius, Alvilda, Angèle, Colette Collerette, Edna Sorgelsen, Eve is Sick of Adam, Jean Paul Dance, La Veuve, Mademoiselle Boop, Tiny Djinn.
Brussels-based Rokia Bamba realized only belatedly that she wasn’t only a good radio DJ - she has been since the age of twelve, for Radio Campus among others - but that she could also make people dance. She particularly likes to mix at socially engaged parties. Expect groovy hip-hop, African rhythms, house and techno.
Her sound exploration has also deepened through art and theater. She draws her inspiration from sound archives and immerses visitors / spectators in an unexpected sensory experience. Discover more!
